I’ve been an Evangelion fan for quite some time and because of that I decided to open collecting the Platinum series in addition to my unusual EVA collection (Perfect Collection, Death/Rebirth, Extinguish of Evangelion and the two Director Reduce DVD’s) but with all products I gape 2 kinds of reviews: in favor of the product or against it. But never something descriptive, so now I’m having a shot at it.

So what is the Platinum collection… Its a re-make of the novel Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The sound dub’s have been re-mastered (and in some cases re-done, for example the Japanese 5.1 dub) and the animation itself has been enhanced. This enhancement consists of a re-creation of the novel report (you can gaze this very clearly when comparing the recent with this version) as well as newly added material. In contrary to what most people (including Amazon) say this DVD does enjoy original material, even though some of it consists of scenes which only last for 1 or 2 seconds. And if you’ve seen the modern you can search for that these puny extra’s really can enhance the overal experience.

This release also makes it quite distinct that its aimed toward collectors. The DVD comes in a (cardbord) box which is shaped in the same intention as the “Perfect Collection” box, it only has a different print and uses a different color (silver/grey) . The box has room to house all 7 DVD releases. The DVD box is inserted in a silver cardbord box which has some very nice decorations on it. This one features a line-drawing of Shinji standing in front of some powerlines (as can be seen in the first episode) at the front, the support tells you what episodes are on the DVD. The DVD box itself comes with a very nice booklet which explains whats on the DVD and also has some nice Evangelion artwork. And to attain up; you’ll earn your absorb “Nerv Parking Permit”; a shine-through sticker which you can stick on the inside window of your car. All in all: its very sure that this isn’t unbiased an ordinary Evangelion DVD.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Neon Genesis Evangelion - Platinum Collection 1! Click Here

However, although the Platinum collection is a very profitable DVD its not as estimable as the modern. Its like comparing a book with a movie: the book describes details and leave you to construct up your enjoy image of the scenes. In the fresh Evangelion serie not everything was drawn in exact detail, thus leaving it up to the viewer to get the complete report. In my conception this adds a lot to the whole experience. Things don’t always have to be perfect in order to be experienced as perfect.

So is the Platinum collection worth it?

If you are a fan of the series I’d say yes. Even if you already fill the current series I’d quiet advice you to contemplate this one as well (a bit like Star Wars and the later released extended version) simply because of the extra’s it offers and is going to offer.

However, if you unprejudiced want to acquire an impression of the “Evangelion experience” then I’d advice you to seriously believe as to what you really want. If you honest want a perceive then this is a superb DVD: cheaper than the recent, holds 1 more episode than the modern release 0-1 and has some nice collectors items.

But if you’re unique and understanding on getting the whole serie then I’d advice you to launch with the “Perfect Collection”. Its cheaper, its novel material and by the time you’ve finished that one you can always think getting the Platinum collection. I’m gorgeous definite that a whole boxed space will eventually be released, which will probably cost you a lot less than collecting every DVD seperatly.

But… For fans this is really a must have collection.

Evangelion is without a doubt, my common bright series ever made. The memoir is beyond compare: it is the year 2015, in a post-apocalyptic setting. Creatures called Angels are attacking the city of Tokyo III, and the only blueprint to combat them is with massive and mysterious robots called Evangelions, which can only be piloted by a 14-year conventional Child, born during the Second Impact. Confusing, suitable? Well throw in some incredibly deep philosophical ponderings, and religious ideologies, and you have a present that will fall your jaw with it’s action-packed battles, trot you with it’s intricate dramatic storyline, and ultimately change your life forever. Volume One has the first four Evangelion episodes, which basically introduce you to the legend and the main characters: Shinji, Katsuragi, and Rei (unfortunatly, my well-liked character, Asuka, isn’t introduced until later episodes) . The DVD features both the English version, and the Japanese subtitled version (as well as Spanish and French versions), and of course, enhanced record and sound as well as some other goodies, making this the ultimate Eva. Now I can’t wait for the others.

I remember when I first saw the 1974 inconvenience myth “The Towering Inferno” as a child. The movie was playing exclusively at one of those ragged, mountainous theaters, complete with balcony and curtains which drew originate as the film began. The hide was vast. There was not an empty seat in the house. Moviegoers applauded as the opening chords of John Williams’ immense secure began thundering from the speakers during the opening credit sequence. And fans continued to applaud, most notably when Steven McQueen finally arrives on the scene, fire marshall red car skidding to a cessation, helmet in hand. This film, one of the greatest blockbusters in cinema history, was a apt event for 1970s audiences.

It has always been easy to dismiss this film, objective as most critics dismiss many of the current pains films of this era (”Airport,” “Earthquake,” “The Poseidon Adventure”) . When watching “The Towering Inferno” today (this film must be seen in the letterbox format, if only to truly savor the wonderful special effects), I feel a dim twinge of nostalgia. Steve McQueen’s presence alone is worth the label of admission, and this role would turn out to be one of his last in a major film. He steals objective about every scene he’s in, simply because of his fabulous hide presence. A few wrinkles crease his weathered face, he’s kind of corpulent, but even with middle age slowly approaching, McQueen’s spark is undeniable. “The Towering Inerno” is a gargantuan example as to why McQueen was one of our greatest movie stars.

Sure, the gigantic cast sleepwalks through most of this film in “I’m-just-collecting-a-paycheck” fashion, but has Paul Newman and Faye Dunaway ever been as glowing as they were in this flick? The Maureen McGovern song “We May Never Care For Like This Again” (which won an Academy Award) is pure 70s schmaltz, the disco fashions relatively comical (gotta treasure Richard Chamberlain’s suit) and you even have Fred Astaire doing a bit of soft shoe with Jennifer Jones. I’m not going to mention O.J. Simpson’s role, simply because he’s map too easy of a target these days.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Towering Inferno! Click Here

Through it all, “The Towering Inferno” does have an well-known message, eventually becoming a tribute to the heroism of our nation’s firefighters. That’s noble. I also cherish one of Newman’s final lines in the film, in which he says they should fair leave the tower as is - “I judge they should objective leave it, kind of a monument to all the bull[stuff] in the world.” It’s also captivating to peep two legends such as McQueen and Newman working together on hide. In fact, I can’t really select a single film in history in which two acting legends the position of McQueen/Newman starred in the same film together such as this. In today’s Hollywood, they really don’t invent movie stars like this anymore. And they really don’t create films like this anymore.

Going to the movie theater venerable to be an event. Mammoth screens, larger-than-life movie stars, movies playing at the same theater for months at a time. “The Towering Inferno” reminds me of that era, before cable TV, before video rental stores, before multiplex movie theaters. It’s corny, it’s amusing, and it’s special effects-driven. But it’s a glamorous film, as extinct as “Immense Hotel,” and a testament to a bygone era in Hollywood.

Irwin Allen decided to follow up his “The Poseidon Adventure” success with the 1974 suspense-thriller “The Towering Inferno,” a movie which also garnered an impressive 10 Oscar nominations and is released as a 2-disc DVD special edition this week.

Whereas in “The Poseidon Adventure” the leads had to disappear up, the only device is down for Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden, Fred Astaire, Richard Chamberlain, Robert Wagner and Faye Dunaway. Attending the opening night gala the guests are trapped on the 129th floor of the world’s tallest building which becomes an inferno thanks to the shoddy wiring system installed by chief builder James Duncan (Holden) and his electrician son Roger Simmons (Chamberlain) .

Newman plays Doug Roberts, the proud architect slack the Glass Tower, a skyscraper, which dominates the San Francisco skyline at a height of 138-story’s. Returning from a long vacation Roberts immediately recognizes that something is immoral and he is proven upright when a circuit breaker burns out and ignites garbage on a lower floor.

While the script can be a tad melodramatic at times, the grief achieve into this movie is positive. Nominated for Best Record and winning for best cinematography, best special effects and best song, the movie was a fracture hit and tranquil holds up well today in this age of blockbuster special effects extravaganza’s.

As with “The Poseidon Adventure” the previous DVD release was sorely lacking in special features and has been replaced with three hours of extras. Joining the nine all-new featurettes which includes a retrospective, a behold at the special effects and the art originate is the AMC Backstory on the making of the movie, 32 deleted or extended scenes and an audio commentary by film historian F.X. Feeney.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Towering Inferno! Click Here

Feeney’s commentary is entertaining and comprehensive, covering all aspects of the production from the writing and dialogue all the method through to the sets and the sense of anticipation director John Guillerman builds up from the inaugurate. Feeney tells us that this movie was a milestone for Hollywood in that it was the first time two studios had co-produced a feature. Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox owned two separate books, “The Tower” by Richard Martin Stern and “The Glass Inferno” by Thomas N. Scortia and Frank M. Robinson, and both planned to manufacture two competing movies on the same subject.

It was Allen who stepped in and proposed the historic deal and the two studios agreed, splitting first the cost and then the profit equally.

Though not for the plump length of the feature special effects director Mike Venzina and stunt coordinator Branko Racki both individually comment on individual scenes. Verzina discusses eight scenes and Racki talks about nine separate scenes. Their observations are largely technical in nature and center on their selective specialties.

The longest of the documentaries is once again the AMC Backstory which runs 22:08. It is in this featurette that we learn that the model ancient for shots of the tower was itself seven stories high, that William Holden became aggravated with Faye Dunaway’s tardy-ness to the dwelling and that despite the media attempting to characterize conflict between the two stars Steve McQueen and Paul Newman, the two actually got along well together with a mutual respect and suitable competition (as evidenced by a silly blooper) .

The other featurettes range from 4:28 in length (on the directing of the movie) to 9:15 on the writer Stirling Silliphant. But they camouflage a wide range of topics from a retrospective by the cast and crew “Inside the Tower: We Remember” (8:16) in which Richard Chamberlain likens the area to being at a really glamorous Hollywood party day after day with the standard six star dressing rooms being increased to 15 to the architecture of the tower in “Smooth the World’s Tallest Tower” (8:28) which compares The Glass Tower to other real-life skyscrapers and the impact these high-rise buildings have on the surrounding communities.

Other topics touched on include the safety aspects employed on the production in “Putting out fire” (4:58) in which Allen comments “You’d better have all the camera’s rolling because fire waits for no man,” and also reveals that firemen were on the area each day to “Running on fire” (5:52) which discusses the work of the stuntmen and includes the facts McQueen did not like anyone else doing his stunts and even Newman and Chamberlain did a number of their contain stunts.

Also on this special collector’s edition are 32 deleted or extended scenes that range from the 40-second “Aloof Waiting for the Elevator” which featuresshots of crowds of people pushing and shoving each other at the elevator and Holden’s character assessing the spot on the telephone to the 2:55 clip “Four Anxiety Fire” which covers the spreading of the fire through the building, the call from security requesting a four-alarm fire and shots of fire engines screaming through the streets of San Francisco.

All of the deleted or extended scenes were originally fragment of a longer television broadcast. Unfortunately their condition has deteriorated and they were deemed of too unpleasant quality for Fox to include them through the favorite DVD technique of seamless branching alongside the theatrical reduce on the first disc.

Rounding out the special features on this release are three 1975 articles from “American Cinematographer” which race for a combined 83 pages and which, like those on “The Poseidon Adventure” DVD release, include selectable images which remove the viewer to image galleries. These articles are all technical in nature and include discussion on how the movie was photographed and the work of the action unit. There are also six storyboard comparisons and five image galleries that range from shot compositions and costumes through to publicity and conceptual sketches.

I had been looking for this DVD for a very long time and was very satisfied to glean it, since I had read the book One Survivor Remembers several times. My only wish is that the DVD could have been longer, 43 minutes is too short to scream such a consuming record. But, it was effective.

I was substitute teaching a class in high school and we were to perceive this movie. I was so impressed I wrote down the name of it. Basically it’s fair a touching chronicle and a splendid reminder that our lives are not so abominable afterall. A nice perspective.

Being an avid movie and music fan, I’m always cheerful to salvage hidden gems in either artform that can select me by surprise. I will also say that on most occasions I usually tend to agree with the critics in their attitudes and assertions. However, this was not such a case. When I recently stumbled upon this movie, I had never heard of it; the cast immediately intrigued me, especially Ingrid Bergman (in a 60’s comedy?!) I did a microscopic research and was dissappointed to peer that most of the reviews of this film were either lukewarm or negative, with most of the complaints being made about the “miscasting of Ingrid Bergman”. Tantalizing enough, Goldie Hawn managed to earn an Academy Award for her role…(was 1969 that abominable a year for actresses? ) .

Anyway, I wasn’t expecting great when I finally watched it, especially after reading Leonard Maltin’s review. However, I posthaste found myself thouroughly enjoying the scenarios unfolding. Lighthearted, yes…but very fun. It is very remarkable in line with the Neil Simon plays/film of the era, having also been derived from a Broadway play. I have to say that suited dilapidated Leonard is obnoxious on this one, as are many other critcs. The most fabulous error is the claim that Ingrid Bergman was miscast and has no comedic timing. She was a riot to study in a role like this; I’ll say the best moments in the film are hers. To my eyes, Bergman appears to be having a blast with this role and it is quite apparent. At this point in her career, her mid 50’s, it is wholly delectable to study the collected comely Bergman having some lighthearted, carefree fun.

I am surprised that the Academy chose to honor Goldie Hawn for her performance. I found her to be a tad too cooky, even for a ’60’s go-go girl. Walter Matthau, however, plays the role of a sneaky dentist quite well and is fully delicious.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Cactus Flower! Click Here

Apart from the actors’ performances, I did also be pleased the peep and feel of the film. While many films from the 60’s and 70’s appear, to me, to be hopelessly dated in both of these aspects, I found that the “1969″ in this film looked big. It was actually very bewitching…oranges, browns, flowers, and miniskirts, et.al.

All in all, a very satisfying, simple petite romp. Perceive folks, I’m not saying this is a masterpiece by any stretch, but I definately found this wonderful seeing. The DVD has no extras to remark of…honest a trailer of the film, as well as trailers for two other completely unrelated film (? ) However, the transfer of the film to DVD is surprisingly satisfying…colors are rich and vibrant, with minimal artifacts, film dirt/damage. Also, and thankfully, the Widescreen is anamorphic. Of course, there is the obligatory inclusion of the Standard (aka butchered) Version on the flipside of the disk, for those who haven’t made the transition to the True scheme that is widescreen. (ok…so maybe that was a diminutive unnecessary)

So if you’ve possibly not seen or heard of this film and are enthusiastic, don’t listen to the critics on this one. Give it a try, it’s a ample time.

This comedy is not thin. It has absolutely no sag, a fine and actually believable storyline, likable and believable characters, colossal acting, and it’s very humorous. This is what they mean when they say they don’t fabricate comedies like this anymore. Written at a time when Hollywood did not presume that the audience only needed a point to of bodily fluids and lame memoir lines to be glad.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Cactus Flower! Click Here

The film demonstrates another point: the mountainous comedic actors don’t try to be humorous. They unprejudiced act. I don’t know if Walter Mathau ever won an Oscar, but if he didn’t he would be, like Cary Grant, one of the greatest actors never to have done so. He was not only a gargantuan comedy actor (”Cactus Flower”, “Outlandish Couple” and “A Unusual Leaf”), but could quite convincingly play a thug (”Strangers When We Meet”) and a tough, no-nonsense cop (”The Laughing Policeman”) .

In this film, he’s quick-witted as always. With all respect to the unique 20 million dollar a film generation, could Adam Sandler play the role of Julian Winston without simply playing, oh, Adam Sandler?

Ingrid Bergman is extraordinary. And by that, I mean incredibly sexy. You have no distress whatsoever seeing why Walter Mathau eventually picks her over a 21 year dilapidated Goldie Hawn. And you fully understand why the great younger man nuzzles her neck while dancing with her. While watching the film, I kept reminding myself that it had been made 25 years after “Casablanca” and yet there she was, composed looking smashing.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Cactus Flower! Click Here

So yeah, it’s “dated”. Were that more contemporary Hollywood comedies, maybe even one, were so dated.

“Castle in the Sky” is a masterpiece of one of Japan’s finest filmakers. There is a simple artistry to Miyazaki’s stories. This is a children’s film, but it is in the tradition of children’s stories that appeal to all ages. A rare, pure fantasy, the film has the same magic as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” and other early Disney films.

I first saw this movie when it was released in US theaters as “Laputa the Floating Island.” The mythical floating island of Laputa is taken from Swift’s “Gulliver’s Travels.” Like Swift, Miyazaki cloaks a political statement with a fantasy, giving deeper meaning to his account. Environmentalism has always been central to his films, and “Castle in the Sky” is no exception.

Visual, the film is a literal flight of like. Noteworthy of the film takes plot in the air. Air pirates depart in unwieldy flying machines. Giant dirigibles glide the skies. Go by kite is an acceptable option. The animation is of the highest quality, as is the sound and acting.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Castle in the Sky! Click Here

The narrative may seem familiar to followers of animation. Miyazaki also work briefly on the script of “Nadia: Secret of Blue Water” using some of the same concepts. The myth was also adapted by Disney as their film “Atlantis,” sending the characters underground instead of up to the sky. However, “Castle in the Sky” is the fable in it’s current, best manufacture.

I cannot recommend this film enough.

More than four years ago I rented the VHS tape of Kiki’s Delivery Service, and there was an ad for Castle in the Sky before it. It was listed as “coming soon.”

Since then, I’ve gotten the Japanese version of Castle in the Sky on DVD, and I esteem it. However, I’m unexcited baffled by the fact that Disney has paid professional actors to deliver the characters and gotten the film prepared for release in the US — even advertised it — and has since then honest sat on it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Castle in the Sky! Click Here

It’s almost criminal to bear such tall films as Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, and Pon Poko in your possession and not piece them with the English speaking world.

If and when they witness the error of their ways and execute this film available, do yourself a favor and engage it. We need to let the media juggernauts know how considerable we treasure Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

Good afternoon. Here is the seventh and final season (1972-1973) of “Mission: Impossible” which is now produced by Barry Crane (outmoded “Mission: Impossible” associate producer who masters the science of budgets over scripts from season 1 to 6–except season 2–, and director from season 4 to 7) and entirely supervised by newcomer writer Stephen Kandel but helped by writer Laurence Heath who produces one episode: “Boomerang”. The series carries on dealing with the Syndicate as in the previous season 6, Barry Crane follows the path of his predecessor, reaches the fatal recession and, eventually, the series becomes self-conscious and looses its edge.

Minor changes occur: Lynda Day George is absent ten times in this twenty two episodes season and therefore guest female agents appear as in the hybrid season 4: during seven episodes, Barbara Anderson (used “Ironside” leading actress) poses as ex-convict Mimi Davis who is introduced in “Demolish!” and also Marlyn Mason posing as IMFer Sandy in “Crack-Up” and Elizabeth Ashley posing as IMFer Andrea in “The Interrogate”, one episode (”Imitation”) contains no female IMFer, the character of Barney carries a moustache during four episodes (”Two Thousand”, “Leona”, “Underground”, “Hasten”) and the main theme music is slightly re-arranged with a like a flash tempo in the vein of the “hip” season 5. In order to renew the locations, the action takes space in San Francisco as for instance “Race” (a season 5 youth movement drama combined in a Syndicate set, guest starring Claude Akins and Jenny Sullivan) .

Find a selection of rare espionage plots: “Two Thousand” (directed by Leslie H. Martinson–who did the cult season 6 “Invasion”–, guest starring Vic Morrow and deals with atomic warfare through weapons trade), “Tod-5″ (directed by Film Noir artisan Lewis Allen, guest starring Peter Haskell and Michael Conrad which highlights the germ warfare threat organized by American terrorists), “Ultimatum” (guest starring Murray Hamilton and Madlyn Rhue which underlines the distress of both the atomic warfare and inner terrorism executed by a frustrated scientist; the dwelling reminds the 1950 British film “Seven Days to Noon”), “The Examine” (the masterpiece written by Stephen Kandel and guest starring Gary Lockwood and Jason Evers and tackles a Soviet assassin intrigue about the theme of defection), “The Pendulum” (guest starring Dean Stockwell which points a finger at a conspiracy inside the American government in the earn of a subversive group of politicians and militaries) .

Find also some titillating gangster episodes: “Underground” (guest starring Peter Note Richman as a doctor from a secret organization who interrogates harshly Jim Phelps inside a psychedelic torture chamber a la “Ipcress File” so that he locates the hideout of the Syndicate’s finances, held secret by an abducted diabetic accountant), “Kidnap” (the sequel to the season 6 “Casino”, directed by actor Peter Graves and guest starring John Ireland and in which Barney becomes the leader of the team to free kidnapped Jim), “Movie” (guest starring John Vernon and David Brian), “The Puppet” (guest starring Roddy McDowall), “Crack-Up” (directed by Sutton Roley and guest starring Alex Cord and Peter Breck in which a hired killer/chess player is hypnotized by the IMF to respond to two catch-phrases “when in doubt, retract a pawn/Cordel” and to confess the space and identity of his boss), “The Deal” (guest starring Robert Webber, Lana Wood and Lloyd Bochner which blends a Syndicate position with a foreign intrigue of a Caribbean dictator), “Smash!” (guest starring Robert Conrad) . Music-wise, only two scores are unusual, “Underground” by Lalo Schifrin and “Ultimatum” by Duane Tatro.

Your mission, should you resolve to net it, is to view, glance and devour the overtones and secret meanings of season 7. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Apt luck…

This final year entry of Mission Impossible welcomes a newcomer, the handsome Barbara Anderson as agent Mimi Davis along with ragged greats Peter Graves, Greg Morris, Peter Lupus and Lynda Day George.

After 168 successful missions from modern creator Bruce Geller, Jim Phelps accepts the final mission for the IMF. Mission Impossible always placed the bar high for other series with its intricate scripts and that unbelievable iconic music theme from the sterling Lalo Schifrin! This final season is no exception!

To complement this prodigious series, CBS/Paramount’s mission, should they settle to come by it, (and we distinct hope they do), is to release the 35 episodes from the 1988 series! That would be gigantic news.

When you hear the basic storyline of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” it sounds like another one of those “wacky” romantic comedies that they appreciate to build out every month. However, when you realize that this is written by Charlie Kaufman (who also wrote “Adaptation” and “Being John Malkovich”), then you know that this will be a very different movie. This is such an delicious, hilarious and a brutally fair film that has immediately become a common of mine.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind! Click Here

Jim Carrey plays “Joel;” a unruffled and shocked person who keeps to himself most of the time. He’s bummed out when he discovers that his girlfriend had a unique intention done in where she has erased him from her memory. Not lustrous what else to do, Joel decides that he must accept the same thing done to him and goes to the clinic to have her erased from his memory, hoping that the damage and sadness will go away. When he’s undergoing the scheme, unconscious and reliving the memories as they are being erased, Joel begins to realize that there were some very delighted moments he had with her and he doesn’t want to lose them after all.

It’s really hard to categorize a movie like this. While it is indeed a comedy on some levels, it has a lot of dramatic elements to it, as well. Because of this, people will either tumble in admire with it or abhor every runt of it. What really struck home with me is how objective and creative it really is. You’ll gather a lot more honesty and truth in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” than in most of the “cute” comedies that are out there today. It is extremely easy to represent to the characters, and that is what makes it all the more realistic for us. Jim Carrey is absolutely astounding in this, as he is very controlled and doesn’t try to consume the demonstrate. This is when you really rep to leer his acting skills shine. Kate Winslet takes the challenge of playing opposite of Carrey head-on and succeeds every single time. We cannot forget about Elijah Wood, Stamp Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst and Tom Wilkinson, who also beget the movie that mighty more enthralling.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind! Click Here

What I really worship about the movie is the theme of it, and that is that unbiased because a relationship doesn’t work out in the waste, it doesn’t mean that it was time wasted. Definite, there are positive memories we wish would go away somehow, but how would that change us as a person if we could do such a thing? We learn from our experiences; from the genuine and the abominable. That’s how we aged as human-beings, and Kaufman’s clever writing really establishes that perfectly. The DVD has some chilly extras, such as behind-the-scenes documentaries, audio commentary from the writer and the director, deleted scenes and more.

“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” remains the best film to reach out of 2004 for me. It’s outlandish, yet clever; comical yet murky, and imaginative, yet just. If you’re looking for a risk-taking film that is like a breath of new air, then I highly recommend this righteous narrate. This can possibly be the best movie of Jim Carrey’s career. Lift a chance and bag out why so many people are raving about it in the first space. -Michael Crane

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, which I saw tonight in an near screening, is the most crooked, unusual romantic comedy I’ve seen in a long time. Coming from the mind of Charlie Kaufman, this film is luckily more in the vein of BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION than HUMAN NATURE.

The film, which operates on the premise that people can delete abominable relationships from their memories, travels essentially backward down its story’s timeline. It examines several key themes regarding compatibility, fate and how our memories can manufacture up who we are.

Jim Carrey, who plays his role of Joel straight rather than wacky, delivers his best and most human performance since THE TRUMAN Demonstrate. But the movie, thankfully, belongs to Kate Winslet. As Clementine, the girlfriend who Joel wants to either like or forget, Winslet is wacky, quick-witted and hilarious - the sort of girl you want to either savor or strangle.

While their central chronicle plays out mostly within Joel’s brain, several equally engaging subplots emerge lively the memory-erasing workers played by Kirsten Dunst, Tag Ruffalo, Elijah Wood and Tom Wilkinson.

The thing I like best about Charlie Kaufman scripts is that I don’t always know where they’re going but, in the destroy, they mask all their bases, address all the philosophical questions inherent in their zigzag plots and always leave me entertained. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is a terrific movie.

This DVD has been taken from a early-forties era documentary film made with Stateside audiences in mind. It was probably shown in theaters before the main shows during the war years. One of the sizable pluses is that the film is in color, and that the color is strikingly profitable for a combat film. Directed by Academy Award winner William Wyler (best known for ‘Ben-Hur’ and the current documentary of ‘The Memphis Belle’), the film depicts life–and death–in a P-47 Thunderbolt squadron based in Italy. It gives the viewer a worthy ogle at Italy, not objective the foul itself. The strafing runs are righteous, taken by a camera mounted in the planes on dependable missions. For a wartime propaganda film, it is quite fair and deals with the suffering of noncombatants, showing bombed-out buildings, children playing advance a burned corpse, and haggard, war-weary men and women. The aerial footage is sterling, the dialogue is apt, and the quality of the characterize is also wonderful. The film also shows the tragic results of a Thunderbolt shatter quite graphically, as if to remind the viewer that war is a uncertain game and that there is never any guarantee that the pilots will return from their missions. This color film runs around 45 minutes. It is well worth the notice.

Along with “Memphis Belle” this exquisite film stands up there with the best documentary features of the era. Using wartime film equipment, (no treasure Hollywood gear!) William Wyler (Ben-Hur) did his fraction for the war disaster, with style and class (and a miniature humor!) . A combination of propaganda and straight up unbiased filmmaking, ‘Thunderbolt’ is a film worth buying.

Shot on 16mm Kodachrome, You wont discover ultrafine images or pretty sound. The color and disagreement are sometimes harsh. But this was War, and filmmaking in a combat zone isn’t easy, under harsh conditions Wyler’s film survived to become the legal classic it is today.

Supersize Me felt to me like two movies interwoven together. First off, and most compellingly, this is a documentary about the hasty food industry and its role in the obesity epidemic in this country. Although it’s an angle most of us have probably already been exposed to, the movie does a first-rate job illustrating the insidious procedure that the expeditiously food industry pedals its products to the masses and infiltrates all aspects of our American culture. In particular, Morgan Spurlock does an impressive job illustrating the pervasiveness of marketing towards children. We glimpse what today’s parents are up against if we try to inform our kids healthy habits. Throughout the movie, we explore repeated references to the eminent lawsuit in which McDonalds was sued for making people obese. I imagine most people probably have a similar experience to mine, in which I started out thinking such a lawsuit was laughably preposterous, but by the ruin of the movie I could actually view the logic in it. I wasn’t exactly what point he was trying to construct with the graphic footage of the gastric bypass surgeries. If it was announce to defective viewers out, the reality is that any surgery could do that if shown in that detail. I hope it didn’t have the execute of discouraging anyone from pursing a gastric bypass, which happens to be a astonishing operation that has helped many people turn their lives around.

The second thread of the movie is the human experiment, in which our protagonist goes 30 days eating only McDonalds food. For me, this section felt like abominable reality TV to me. Although posed a scientific experiment, it is certain our narrator knows from the commence what direction it will go. For one thing, we peruse his vegan girlfriend reprove his plans. From even the first couple of days, we accumulate endless shots of him looking at the food and telling us how injurious it looks, or telling us how sick he feels. The shock this eye, if you can call a sample size of one person with an agenda a look, is that he actually gets even more physically ill than anyone anticipated. Well, he gains weight and has an elevation of his liver enzymes. His doctors appropriately try to coach their patient into reverting wait on to a healthier diet, putting as grim a dart on it as possible. Elevated liver enzymes however are the normal response of a healthy liver to an acute insult. It’s going abruptly from a grievous chubby diet to a massively high-fat diet that causes it. If he wanted to acquire the case that this was a dire lethal reaction to quick food, we could have checked the liver enzymes of any of the characters we meet in the movie who habitually eat speedy food. He would have found them to be mostly normal, since the bump in liver enzymes is a function of the acute change, not the rapidly food in and of itself. His doctors execute the analogy to alcoholics, who come by elevated liver enzymes from the insult of alcohol to their livers. But, in fact, it is when an alcoholic binges and doesn’t secure a corresponding rise in liver enzymes that there is evidence of end-stage liver disease (Morgan’s internists hopefully understand this but are either doing their job by trying to dread him, possibly hamming it up for the cameras, and/or the interactions are edited for maximum melodrama and don’t deem the deliver of the accurate visits.) We even observe that Morgan’s liver enzymes are returning to normal by the last space of blood tests, even though he is aloof on the diet at that point, but petite is made of that in the movie, because it doesn’t abet the premise that eating all posthaste food for a month can destroy you. His chest injure, which looked like an panic attack, and his other physical symptoms such as headaches are hard to elaborate, especially in someone with an agenda to catch as sick as possible. Then we obtain to stare footage of Morgan on the phone with his mother, her only half joking that she would donate share of her liver if he needs it, and footage of Morgan on the phone with his girlfriend practically mourning his doughty and fated death. Too considerable. The informational whisper is essential enough without watering it down with the smart equivalent of like a flash food.

My personal Amazon-confession: I worship McDonald’s, but I do feel unfavorable afterwards. One of my professors in Med school was fond of saying “there’s no valid or abominable foods, unprejudiced noble or dreadful diets.” The McGridle really puts that sentiment to the test, but I would collected agree with it. I always hoped he would dawdle one day and say “there’s no obedient or unpleasant food, impartial estimable or unpleasant people,” but it never happened.

Overall, a beneficial movie, I’m blissful I saw it. The extras don’t add noteworthy in particular but tranquil a respectable DVD. For me, personally, I could have watched grand more of the documentary footage and skipped the “reality” melodramatics of the 30 day experiment. However, that experiment was probably the gimmick that got the movie financed, publicized, and accessible to a mass audience, so maybe it was well-known from a practical point of plan.

The modern trend towards obesity in the US is not a difficult one to view, and yet so many people turn their backs on it. Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does unprejudiced the opposite. He throws it in the faces of the movie-going public with a unusual and brilliant fervor, akin to that of Eric Schlosser, author of Like A Flash Food Nation. Spurlock states “Elegant Size Me is one man’s dawdle into the world of weight come by, health problems and posthaste food. It’s an examination of the American plot of life and the influence that has had on our children, the nation and the world at tremendous.” Furthermore, “It’s a film about corporate responsibility and personal responsibility,” and indeed this film is unbiased that.

Spurlock spends 30 grueling days eating nothing but McDonalds food, and exploits the health risks accompanying such a lifestyle in the process. Under the supervision of three medical doctors and a nutritionist, Spurlock’s health steadily declines, his weight steadily increases, and his cholesterol skyrockets. All the while, his vegan chef girlfriend, Alex Jamieson, is in the background rolling her eyes.

Interspersed throughout the documentation of Spurlock’s McDiet are highly gripping facts regarding the food industry and its somewhat less-than-benign ventures, as well as interviews with key people who have attempted to hurry the public to change their eating habits for the better (such as author John Robbins and frail Surgeon General David Satcher) . Though this film is chock chunky of facts and statistics, Spurlock is not without witty repartee and humor. In other words, this is not your average snore-inducing PBS special.

I must agree with the criticism this film has received for not being as scientific as it could have been, as his personal results may not be representative of what others would experience (the Sizable Mac fanatic Eric Gorske is a prime example of this) . Nonetheless, his results are serene rather eye-opening and almost vomit-inducing. The public should be aware of the things they are placing in their mouths everyday, and the effects those things could potentially have on them.

This is definitely a movie worth buying and watching over and over again, particularly when you glean the hasten to go grab a meal from a local swiftly food joint. This film caused McDonalds to do an slay to Super-sizing before it even entered theaters, and that in itself should say something. For more information on the malevolence of the rapidly food industry, go and read Hasty Food Nation as well!
